Aaden's Soccer Birthday Party

can you believe it? my baby is 9 years old now!

aadens9thbday-6.jpg

for aaden's 9th birthday, he wanted a soccer theme. so we had a backyard cookout with close friends and family. here are the pics:

aaden is obsessed with soccer! he brings his soccer ball to school every day. his favorite player is cristiano ronaldo.

as i've mentioned before, i like to keep things simple with my party decor, i truly believe that you can make a party look great, without hurting your pockets. so this time around i kept it super simple and reused a lot of party decor i already owned. i wanted it to be colorful, because aaden loves bright colors just like his momma ;)

there goes another memorable birthday party in the books! thanks to everyone who came & celebrated my baby boy! love you all!

diy mini photo album gift idea

I love sentimental gifts. The ones you know a lot of thought went into them.

Sometimes it's a little difficult choosing what gifts to get my kids, plus my nieces and nephews- especially because they are all very fortunate so they pretty much have everything they need.

This year I wanted to create a little special gift for my niece Liah.

hahaha throw baacck little Melinda ....I think the bag is Chanel ;)

hahaha throw baacck little Melinda ....I think the bag is Chanel ;)

I can remember as a little girl always carrying around a little purse. Most of the time it was empty, when it wasn't it was full of random things like Barbie hair brushes, fake makeup, and whatever else I could find that was tiny enough to fit in there.

So I found this little owl purse that I knew she would love, and thought about giving her that filled with some goodies.

side note: I have to take advantage of all things girly! I have two sons, two nephews, and another niece who is the best kind of tomboy there is. So Liah is my chance to get all the girly thangs!

I knew I couldn't get her real makeup- she is only 3... my sister already wanted to kill me when I let her play with my tinted lipgloss buahahaha....

Bring in the super cute and fun Lip Smackers! Who doesn't love Lip Smackers? All the fun flavors and the pretty packaging, I remember getting them as a kid. So I knew she would love it!

0F7AC746-4AC6-44CA-8EF5-56D279E9F068.jpg

Then I grabbed some cute besties bracelets because her and Auntie are def besties! duh!

Now for the personal touch; I remembered having those little wallet picture albums. Please tell me you remember those? Back when wallet size photos served a purpose and we didn't have 8000 photos available at our fingertips.

Thus the idea for this DIY was born!

I know she would love to have some pics of her squad (her cousins) in her purse.

I printed some small pictures off my Canon

This was such fun quick DIY, the best part is that you can always add more pages! It's the perfect gift for anyone on your list.

Hopefully this beautiful angel of mine loves it :)  Look at that face!! Yes- I am obsessed!

If you make one be sure to tag me on IG I would love to see it!

last minute halloween treats

Happy Halloween everyone!

Are you super last minute like me?

Or maybe you aren't big on cooking or baking. Don't worry I've gotcha covered today with some super last minute easy Halloween treats.

Pink Mummy Cookies:

Buy some Milano cookies, bright pink chocolate, and candy eyes. You can create a some super cute mummies!

grab a small ziplock bag, add melted pink chocolate, cut a hole in the tip of the bag. Then drizzle the chocolate over the cookies and add some candy eyes. done! SO GOOD!

Poison Cupcakes:

these ones you might need a little time! just to bake the cupcakes, but you could also buy some already made cupcakes. (Target sells some AMAZING mini red velvet cupcakes- seriously they're so good).

I bought a red velvet cake mix box, made these cupcakes and bought some black frosting. Using a piping tip I frosted these creepy things. The witch fingers are candy I found at Michaels. I also bought the cupcake liners and "flavor shot" skulls there, they come in a package.

Pour some booze (I used Black Label) in a shot glass and suck it up with the flavor shots and insert them in the cupcakes. DONE!

There you have it some really easy quick last minute Halloween treats!

Hope you all have a Happy Halloween!

Girl gang getaway gift

As you know all know the girls and I hit the road to New York for my 30th birthday!

It was my first girls getaway trip since my 25th birthday in Miami. We had soo much in New York (stay tuned because obviously I will share all the details with you this week here on the blog!)

So the girls planned out all the details for the trip, because I'm definitely not a planner....tho I wish I was. I'm more of the: "lalalala just point me in the fun direction" type of friend. Steph is pretty much the same, Jenny and Vicky are the planners.

Only thing I did know was that I wanted to give them all a little thank you gift for the trip.

So I made a girl gang gift for our little weekend getaway.

I knew I wanted some eye sleeping masks, so I was on a mission to find some really cute girly but not too kiddish eye masks. I found some at Forever 21. By the way am I only the only one who gets caught up in all their cute stuff they have strategically placed near the registers??!!

I also picked up some party sweets flavored Lip Smackers- because duhhh, they had birthday cake and donut flavored ones in the package! I found these at Target

The Little Arrow girl gang patches were a no brainer! They are the perfect addition, they totally make the gifts. These are available in the Soiree Shop

Lastly, I attached some cute paper stock I had from my Messy Boxes from A beautiful Mess subscription. I wrote a little thank you message on the back of each card.

To make them extra pretty I filled each bag with some pink gift shredded paper filler. Then I just stapled them shut!

I am so happy that the girls loved their gifts! This was such a small gesture to say thank you to a great group of friends who went above and beyond to make sure I had the best birthday. Love these girls so much!

Thanks again girls!! and thank you to everyone who took time out of their day to wish me a happy birthday- You all are the bestest :)

DIY mermaid crown

YAY! It's mermaid week here at Happy Soiree! (we totally made this up & we don't care!)

As I countdown to my 30th birthday I just decided that I'm done adulting and I'm ready to just be a mermaid!

Girls let's be mermaids! Who's down??

To help you get your mermaid on we are kickin off the first wave with a DIY mermaid crown! because what's a mermaid without her crown?

Best part is....I made this for less than $10!

here's what you need:

  • a headband
  • seashells
  • foam hair rollers
  • gems or necklaces you can cut up.
  • A glue gun (or really strong glue)

I bought all of this at dollar tree! (minus the glue gun)

Step 1:

If your headband comes with extra fabric on it- just simply cut it off.

step 2:

Take your roller and bend it against the headband and glue (with a glue gun or really strong glue)

step 3:

Glue one behind the one you first glued

continue layering hair rollers and gluing them on top of each other.

Keep in mind the shape, this is your base to hold up the seashells. I knew I wanted mine to be tall and pointy at the top so I stacked a few, using shorter rollers at the top and bending the final roller to a point at the very top.

File_006.jpeg

step 4:

Plan out where you want your sea shells to go. (when choosing a bag of shells at the store be sure to grab one that has a bunch of different shaped shells) my favorite shells are the ones that look like unicorn horns duhhh!

step 5:

Glue the shells on! I glued the bottom ones to the headband and the rollers. Moving upwards I glued them on the rollers and on some parts of the shells that touched. You really want to make sure you put a lot of glue, because girl- you don't want shells falling of your crown while you slay.

step 6:

Cut up beads and glue on as embellishments. Be sure to cover up most of the rollers.

I did end up covering up that last piece on the bottom left with more beads, because I couldn't find the perfect shell for that part. Plus I knew my hair would cover that part.

Later on I also ended up adding little sticker pearls on some of the shells.

*also if you love color as much as I do you could totally paint the shells to make it even more awesome!

step 7:

SLAY QUEEN!

Become a mother f*ckin mermaid & have fun!!!

The most important step is to slay and have fun babes!!! Never give up your daydreams and make waves!!

If you try this DIY please be sure to share with us on Instagram! We would love to see your magic!

PINEAPPLE B-day brunch soiree

This past week my grandmother turned 86 - yes 86! I know she looks amazing right? Not only does she look amazing, this woman has more of a social life than me at 29! She still goes to music concerts, parties, shopping with her friends, you name it she's down to go! Minus like a keg stand- (I bet she would try it -err awkward). Everyone is always talking about how she's hilarious and they love having her around. She's the life of the party. OK you get it, she's wicked cool and a beautiful young soul.

My grandmother is the closest thing that I have to a mother. Most people have this naturally sweet relationship with their grandmothers, just like my sons have with her. But to be honest, we are so much a like we tend to but heads a lot. So we argue a lot like mother and daughter. Up until recently, I finally grew the f*ck up and realized hey she's not going to be around forever so maybe you should chill out and just enjoy her while you've got her.

So this year I decided to do something a little special for her birthday. I have never done anything for her birthday before. Plus I really wanted to create a memory that we can always remember, especially with all the great grandchildren.

So I called up my sister, told her to come over with my little Liah, and cut up some pineapples!

Here are the pics for the mini soiree brunch we had for her, a little plant / pineapple themed party:

We spent most of the brunch on Snapchat, she was in tears with all the funny filters, but I'm only going to share this cute one with you :)

I didn't just choose pineapples because they're trending. Most of my memories of my grandmother are of us sitting down enjoying some fresh fruit together. Oh and FYI she is the OG plant lady. She loves flowers & everything green. It's like a rain forest in her house. So the theme was an easy choice.

This day was so great. I am so grateful to have these beautiful moments to always remember. Pictures the kids can look at when they grow up and remember this beautiful soul. She had a great time, and I couldn't have imagined a better morning than one spent with my family just laughing and eating cake for breakfast.

Little parties are my favorite, they are so much more personal. I hope that this little party inspires you to make time to create special moments with the people you love.

xo,

Melinda

P.S. her name isn't Abee... we just stole someone's birthday banner.... just kidding. Abee is a nickname that just stuck with her after my oldest son started calling her that when he was a baby. He couldn't say Abuelita (Spanish for Grandma) so he called her Abee, and ever since then she has requested that we all call her that.
